STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX, were introduced in 1992, it was formed so that the global market could have a certifying system that could be universally viable and independent. The test method used when an application is done, consist of 100 test parameters.
The certification is issued by OEKO-TEX, it tests that a product, in everything from the raw material to finished product and its processes and trims, does not contain forbidden chemical substances or that substances limited to a certain level do not exceed a specific level. The certification can be applied on everything from the raw material, colour substances, coloured articles, sewing thread, and yarn, finished constructions like woven, knit or non-woven, details such as buttons, zippers and the labels.
The standard is following REACH, the European Union’s Chemical regulation and ECHA, European Chemicals Agency’s Candidate list, SVHC, which is substances that are listed to be prohibited in the near future. The standard also follows CPSIA, Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, from the American market regarding lead in a product.
There are four product classifications within the standard:
I) Products for infants
II) products used close to the skin
III) products that are not used close to the skin
VI) decoration materials
The Standard is valid when all parts of the product fulfil the requirements given.
