BCI

BCI stands for Better Cotton Initiative, this is an initiative that strives to make the methods of production better for the people within the manufacturing, it also strives for better ways to cultivate crops without harming the environment to be able to continuously use cotton in the industry.

BCI is not a certifying and label system, it is an initiative that aims to create a bigger network of companies, NGO’s to find new ways in comparison to the conventional cotton industry. The BCI initiative strives to be universal and that it will be some kind of mainstream product instead of conventional cotton. BCI is a step towards a better cotton industry seen from the pillars of social, economic and environmental aspects. 

The initiative strives towards four specific goals: reducing the environmental impact of cotton production, improve livelihood and economic development in cotton producing areas, improve commitment to and flow of better cotton through the supply chain, ensure the credibility and sustainability of the better cotton initiative. 

BCI is run through the Better Cotton Initiative Standard System that consists of 6 elements: Principle and Criteria, Capacity Building, Assurance Program, Chain and Custody, Claims Framework, Results and Impact.
